Mentors are a special feature of characters and their management in a guild. This feature allows you to assign an experienced character to mentor another of the same class. By doing this, the mentor will be able to pass on some of their more positive traits, and also increase the rate at which the apprentice gains experience. Additionally, if the mentor manages to survive until their retirement, they will pass on their passive ability to the apprentice.
